The after-effects of a stroke can be devastating. Among the problems experienced by stroke patients are vision issues, which often go undetected when communication abilities are compromised or because patients do not associate new eye problems with the stroke.
Stroke patients are likely to experience visual field loss when the pathways that deliver information from eyes to brain are damaged. New research published in the International Journal of Stroke also shows that stroke patients also can suffer from problems with eye movement when the relevant nerves are compromised.
Researchers recommend eye exercises to strengthen the eye muscles of stroke victims, especially to those who develop problems with reading. Source: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/210028.php

A new study shows that “perceptual training” can improve vision in older adults.
A study of people over 65 published in the Journal of Vision shows that after undergoing two days of training older adults performed as well on visual processing tests as college aged students. The participants were able to maintain this higher level of functioning for up to three months.
Researchers say that this shows “a high degree of brain plasticity among the elderly and suggest that this technique is useful for recovering from declines in vision due to normal aging.” They went on to correlate such improvement in visual abilities with improved safety and quality of life, specifically related to automobile driving. Today, Thursday, October 14 is World Sight Day. Included on the World Health Organization’s official calendar, one of the main goals of this yearly occasion is to raise public awareness of blindness & vision impairment as major international public health issues.
Across the developing world, blindness is a huge issue. Ninety percent of the world’s vision impaired people live in low income countries. But so many eye problems – 80% according to World Sight Day organizers - are preventable. Vision2020 is dedicated to helping people across the globe. Visit their site for details: http://www.vision2020.org/main.cfm
My work is dedicated to helping you prevent eye conditions that could lead to serious visual impairment such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, or cataracts.
Take some time on this World Sight Day to educate yourself on how diet, exercise, supplementation, and an evaluation of your lifestyle habits could help you preserve the precious gift of sight. Visit our page on preventing eye disease.

If someone has a raised, cream colored growth in the white of his or her eye, then it might be what is called a pterygium. These non-cancerous growths generally grow in the nasal side of the white of the eye. Caused by extended time spent in hot, windy environments, people who live on the equator are 10 times more likely to develop this problem than those living in the United States.
Though not dangerous, a pterygium can eventually distort vision because it can grow onto the cornea, and eventually even onto the central part of the eye which can block entering light. If removed surgically, there is a 40% chance that the problem will recur and the growth will return to be even larger and more aggressive.
We offer some natural solutions for those suffering from pterygium at our website.
Our eye exercises can help to bring energy and blood to the eyes, thereby helping to drain away toxins or congestion to the eyes.
